Tenis İle İlgili İngilizce Terimler

Tenis, iki veya dört oyuncunun bir ağın ortasında, bir topu raketler aracılığıyla rakibin sahasına atarak oynadığı raket sporudur. Bu sporda hedef, topu rakibin alanına atmak ve rakibin topu geri atmasını önlemektir. Tenis maçları, setler halinde oynanır.

Ülkemizde yeterince yaygın bir spor dalı olmasa da dünya çapında oldukça seveni olan bir spordur. Bu yazıda tenis ile ilgili terimlerden bahsedeceğiz. Eğer ki bir tenis oyuncusuysan ve terimlere az çok hâkimsen endişelenmene gerek yok, İngilizce tenis terimleri ile Türkçe tenis terimleri neredeyse aynıdır. Fazla uzatmadan Teniste kullanılan İngilizce terimlere göz atalım.

Teniste Kullanılan İngilizce Terimler

• Serve – Servis: The act of hitting the ball to start a point. (Bir noktayı başlatmak için topa vurma eylemi.)
• Forehand – Forehand: A shot hit on the dominant side of the body, usually with the palm facing forward. (Vücudun baskın tarafına, genellikle avuç içi öne bakacak şekilde vurulan bir atış.)
• Backhand – Backhand: A shot hit on the non-dominant side of the body, usually with the back of the hand facing forward. (Vücudun baskın olmayan tarafına, genellikle elin arkası öne bakacak şekilde yapılan bir atış.)
• Ace – Ace: A serve that the opponent is unable to touch with their racket. (Rakibin raketi ile dokunamadığı bir servis.)
• Fault – Hata: A serve that lands outside of the designated service box or hits the net. (Belirlenen servis kutusunun dışına düşen veya fileye çarpan bir servis.)
• Double fault – Çift hata: Two consecutive serves that land outside of the designated service box or hit the net. (Belirlenen servis kutusunun dışına inen veya fileye çarpan art arda iki servis atışı.)
• Volley – Voley: A shot hit in mid-air before the ball bounces on the ground. (Top yerde sekmeden önce havada yapılan vuruştur.)

• Smash – Smas: A powerful overhead shot hit downward towards the opponent’s court. (Güçlü bir tepeden vuruş, rakibin sahasına doğru aşağı doğru vurdu.)
• Lob – Lob: A shot hit high in the air over the opponent’s head. (Rakibin kafasının üzerinden havada yüksekten vurulan bir atış.)
• Drop shot – Drop şotu: A shot hit softly with underspin, intended to drop just over the net. (Filenin hemen üzerinden düşmek amacıyla, alttan falsolu yumuşak bir şut.)
• Spin – Spin: A type of shot that causes the ball to spin as it travels through the air. Topun havada hareket ederken dönmesine neden olan bir atış türü.
• Topspin: A shot hit with a forward spinning motion, causing the ball to dip downwards as it lands. Topspin: İleriye doğru dönen bir hareketle vurulan ve topun yere inerken aşağı doğru eğilmesine neden olan bir şut.
• Underspin – Altspin: A shot hit with a backward spinning motion, causing the ball to bounce lower than expected. Geriye doğru dönen bir hareketle yapılan ve topun beklenenden daha düşük sekmesine neden olan bir şut.
• Deuce – Deuce: A score of 40-40, indicating that the next point will determine who wins the game. 40-40 skoru, bir sonraki sayının oyunu kimin kazanacağını belirleyeceğini gösterir.
• Advantage – Avantaj: A player’s score of 40 when their opponent’s score is 40, indicating that they only need one more point to win the game. (Rakibinin skoru 40 iken oyuncunun skorunun 40 olması, oyunu kazanmak için sadece bir puana daha ihtiyacı olduğunu gösterir.)
• Game – Oyun: A unit of scoring in tennis, consisting of a series of points. (Teniste bir dizi puandan oluşan puanlama birimi.)
• Set – Set: A unit of scoring in tennis, consisting of a series of games. (Teniste bir dizi oyundan oluşan bir puanlama birimi.
• Match – Maç: The entire competition between two players or teams, consisting of one or more sets. (İki oyuncu veya takım arasında bir veya daha fazla setten oluşan rekabetin tamamı.)
• Tiebreaker – Tiebreaker: A special game played when the score is tied at 6-6 in a set, where the first player to reach 7 points wins. (Bir sette skor 6-6 berabere kaldığında oynanan ve 7 puana ulaşan ilk oyuncunun kazandığı özel bir oyun.)
• Let – Let: A serve that hits the net and lands in the service box, allowing the server to replay the point. (Ağa çarpan ve servis kutusuna inen ve servis atan oyuncunun puanı tekrar oynamasına izin veren bir servis.)
• Foot fault – Ayak hatası: A serve where the server’s foot lands on or over the baseline before hitting the ball. (Servis atan oyuncunun ayağının topa vurmadan önce taban çizgisinin üzerine veya üzerine geldiği bir servis.)

• Net cord – Net çizgisi: When the ball hits the net and lands on the other side, either giving the point to the server or requiring a replay. (Top fileye çarptığında ve servis atan oyuncuya puan vererek veya tekrar oynama gerektirerek diğer tarafa düştüğünde.)
• Love – Sıfır: A score of zero in tennis. (Teniste sıfır puan.)
• Rally – Ralli: A back-and-forth exchange of shots between two players. (İki oyuncu arasında ileri geri şut değişimi.)
• Break point – Brejk puanı: A situation where the receiving player has a chance to win the game if they win the next point. (Karşılayan oyuncunun bir sonraki puanı kazanması halinde oyunu kazanma şansının olduğu bir durum.)

Cem İlkel is one of the most successful Turkish tennis players in recent years. Born in İstanbul in 1995, İlkel started playing tennis at a young age and quickly showed promise.
